H. L. Mencken, whose nationally published coverage of the Scopes Trial referred to the town's creationist inhabitants as Image via WikipediaDon Swaim has been a journalist, writer, and broadcaster his entire career. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in broadcast journalism, and worked as an editor, writer, producer, reporter, and anchor at WCBS-AM in New York for many years, and prior to that served at the CBS-TV affiliate in Baltimore.

For more than ten years he produced a daily broadcast that focused on books and authors, Book Beat, nationally syndicated by the CBS Radio Stations News Service. The actual two-minute or less CBS Book Beat features, derived from the much longer author interviews posted here, are on the Internet at: http://donswaim.com/bookbeatpodcast.html .

Don Swaim is the author of The H.L. Mencken Murder Case, published by St. Martin's Press. Born in Kansas and a longtime resident of Manhattan's Upper West Side, Don now lives in Pennsylvania, where he is a writer.
